Your excursion begins at the dock. After a safety orientation, board a van and drive through Skagway to the backcountry and the historic town of Dyea. Hike the first two miles of the scenic Chilkoot Trail, the centerpiece of gold rush history in Skagway. This world famous trail was the main route to the riches of the Klondike during the gold rush. Now a tranquil place of incredible beauty, the trail winds through a lush rainforest alive with birds, animals and wildflowers. Enjoy the exercise, fresh air, beautiful scenery, pristine forests, and history of a bygone era as the trail takes you up and over the 350' tall Saintly Hill. Along the way, your tour guide weaves an entertaining mix of natural history and Klondike folklore. Photo opportunities abound as you retrace the footsteps of the gold-hungry stampeders who forged this route over 100 years ago.

Arrive at the banks of the Taiya River, where your 18-foot raft awaits for the scenic float (no whitewater) back to Dyea. The forest gives way to fields of beach greens and wild iris, and the granite walls of the fjords rise steeply to the snow-capped peaks and hanging glaciers. Enjoy a riverside snack of homemade cookies and a hot beverage with countless picture-perfect moments before loading up in the van and continuing the tour up to the White Pass summit.

We’ll drive for about 45 minutes from the take-out to the top of the scenic White Pass. There are many photo opportunities of beautiful alpine lakes, glaciers, towering snowcapped peaks and pristine forests. After enjoying the spectacular scenery, we’ll return through the U.S. Border station and return to the town of Skagway.

(~10 minutes) - Your friendly guide will meet you near the Skagway Small Boat harbor sign and restrooms. Here they will take the opportunity to get to know you and provide answers to any questions that you might have about your upcoming excursion.
(~35 minutes) - From the small boat harbor we’ll board a van and head toward Dyea and the Chilkoot Trail. Along the way you’ll enjoy a driving town tour of Skagway and the scenic coastal gravel road to Dyea.
(~120 minutes) - Once we arrive in Dyea, your guide will get you outfitted with trekking poles and you’ll have the opportunity to use the restroom before we begin tracing the Gold Rush stampeders’ steps along the first two miles of the Historic Chilkoot Trail.
(~10 minutes) - At the end of the hike your guide will get you outfitted with a PFD and rubber boots and provide a safety briefing as we prepare for the scenic float down the Taiya River.
(~35 minutes) - Sit back and enjoy as your experienced river guide rows you down the scenic Taiya River. The stable 18’ raft provides a great platform for photography and taking in the sweeping mountain, ocean and rainforest views.
(~15 minutes) - Once we reach the riverside raft take-out, you’ll be treated to a homemade cookie and hot cocoa and hot tea and some free time to take in the dramatic landscape with the supplied spotting scope.
(~85 minutes) - From the river take-out we’ll begin our drive north up the Klondike Highway to the dramatic summit of the White Pass. There will be many photo opportunities and we’ll stop at the “Welcome to Alaska” sign so that you can get pictures with the sign.
(~60 minutes) - When we depart the summit the leisurely drive back to your ship will take about 45-60 minutes as we make a photo stop at Bridal Veil Falls and stop through US Customs.

If you are arriving by cruise ship, your guide will meet you at the end of the Skagway pier that your ship docks at. Otherwise the meeting location is the Small Boat Harbor sign. How long is the trail?
The tour hikes along the first 1.6-2 miles of the historic Chilkoot Trail.
What is the trail like?
We’ll be hiking over uneven, natural terrain. There are exposed roots, rocks and sometimes slippery or muddy sections. The trail gains and descends 350’ over the course of the two mile hike.
What wildlife will I see?
Though wildlife can never be guaranteed, Bald Eagles, ravens, squirrels and harbor seals are frequently seen on this tour in Skagway. Skagway’s unique landscape somewhat isolate’s it from many of the larger mammals apart from the occasional black bear or coastal brown bear.
Is there any whitewater on the float?
No – there will be no whitewater or rapids on the float.

At the dock in Skagway, you'll meet up with your tour guide, and be escorted to our 15-passenger van. Your excursion will begin with a drive through historic downtown Skagway which is a part of the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park. You’ll learn about the town’s gold rush history and enjoy stories about the stampeders who passed through town in hopes of striking it rich in the Yukon.

From town we’ll head up to the town overlook to get a different perspective on present day Skagway. Once you’ve had a chance to take photos your tour will continue north up the Klondike Highway toward the summit of the White Pass. On the way we will pass through lush rainforest and drive by multiple waterfalls. There are many photo opportunities of beautiful alpine lakes, hanging glaciers, and towering snow-capped peaks on this excursion.

At the summit you’ll be able to get out and stretch your legs and take in the dramatic alpine landscape. Our ride then continues through Canadian customs into British Columbia. We’ll make multiple tour stops throughout the ride ensuring ample photo opportunities including the “Yukon Territory” sign.

After about an hour on the road we’ll reach Carcross, Yukon on the banks of Lake Bennett, and a highlight of the tour. Here you’ll have free time to explore the small local shops and enjoy great view of the lake made famous by the Klondike Gold Rush. From Carcross, we’ll start our journey back south toward Skagway. We’ll make a stop at the “Welcome to Alaska” sign for photos and then return through the U.S. Border station on our way back to Skagway. *Passports required for this tour

(~10 min) – Photo opportunities at the Skagway overlook (10 minutes).
(~35 min) – Tour up the Klondike highway to White Pass summit and the “Welcome to Alaska” sign (5-10 minutes at the sign).
(~2 hours) – Drive to Carcross, Yukon stopping along the way for photo opportunities at Tutshi Lake, the “Welcome to the Yukon” sign, and the Bove Island overlook – Stops vary depending on group goals and changing photo opportunities as they present themselves.

After meeting your tour representative in Skagway, you'll board a high speed catamaran for a 45 minute boat ride to the town of Haines. Upon arrival into Haines, we'll take a short tour of Fort Seward, a 30 minute drive from downtown Haines and then head up the Lutak Inlet to the Chilkoot River Valley. The Chilkoot corridor offers incredible wildlife viewing. Brown Bears, eagles, mountain goats, and spawning salmon are commons sights. Our guides are expert naturalists and enjoy sharing their love and knowledge of the Alaskan wilderness.

Once at the Lake, we’ll head out onto Chilkoot Lake in stable motor assisted Voyageur Canoes. Our Canoes are built using similar dimensions as the canoes used by trappers and gold miners at the turn of the century. Powered by either paddle or motor, this tour offers guests the opportunity to paddle in the serenity of Chilkoot Lake, while also having the advantage of relaxing and taking photographs when it’s time to take a break from paddling. We’ll be out on the water for about 2 hours and explore the inlets, coves, salmon spawning streams and numerous waterfalls that spill off of the mountains into the lake.

After enjoying the beautiful views on the lake, we’ll return to Haines and serve a picnic-style lunch at a private ocean beach location. Following lunch, we'll load up back onto the fast ferry for the return trip to Skagway.

Your friendly dock representative will meet you near the Skagway Small Boat harbor sign and restrooms. We will provide answers to any questions that you might have about your upcoming excursion and get you ready to board the ferry to Haines. We’ll help you board the comfortable ferry for the 50-minute narrated, scenic journey to Haines.
(~60 minutes)
Upon arrival in Haines, restrooms will be available and you’ll meet your guide and driver. From here we’ll depart for an interpretive drive through historic Fort Seward and continue to Chilkoot Lake. Along the way, we’ll drive along the shoreline of the Lynn Fjord and the wildlife-rich Chilkoot River.
(~15 minutes)
When we arrive at Chilkoot Lake you’ll have the opportunity to meet your other guides and take in the stunning views of the pristine lake. Your guides will help you get fit with a PFD (life jacket), rubber boots and canoe paddle. You’ll then receive a thorough safety briefing and orientation before boarding the 31’ long voyageur canoe for your adventure.
(~90 minutes) –
We’ll spend the next hour and a half experiencing Chilkoot Lake while our stable voyageur canoes. It is an excellent way to take in the fantastic views by water and if the wind picks up or you’re ready to relax, we will use the quiet 4-stroke motor to move around.
(~15 minutes) –
Once back at the put-in we’ll trade your rubber boots and PFD’s back in for your shoes and you’ll have time to enjoy our private deck and spotting scopes to take in the views of the lake and surrounding mountains and waterfalls one more time.
(~40 minutes)
We’ll then board our transportation and head down to the ocean for lunch.
(~30 minutes)
At our private ocean side picnic area, you’ll enjoy a picnic-style lunch provides great views of the Lynn Fjord in a private setting.
(~50 minutes)
Once we wrap up with lunch we’ll head over to the ferry dock where you’ll have the opportunity to use the restrooms and take additional photos of Haines before enjoying the scenic ride back up the fjord to Skagway.

Upon returning to Skagway, a short walk will bring you back to our original meeting point, just a few minutes’ walk or shuttle to downtown Skagway and all three cruise ship docks.

Though wildlife can never be guaranteed, bald eagles, moose, all five types of Pacific salmon, brown and black bears frequent the area. Wildlife sightings depend on the time of the year and area within Haines where the excursion takes place. Mt. Riley is the highest point on the Haines Peninsula. It is a strenuous day hike through mostly temperate rain forest. It has a gorgeous summit and several viewpoints throughout the hike.

Your adventure begins at the pier where you will meet your professional hiking guide. After a narrated drive through the historic Fort Seward, we’ll continue on for about 15 minutes along the Haines Peninsula to the trailhead for Mt. Riley. Along the way, your guide will tell you about the history and geography of Haines. It is a beautiful drive with many scenic photo opportunities.

Once at the trailhead, the hike begins over rolling terrain through temperate rainforest. After about ¼ mile, we start to gain elevation as we make our way up switchbacks through the forest. Throughout the hike, your knowledgeable naturalist guide will talk about the flora and fauna of the region. Depending on the exact route the total hiking distance is between 5-8 miles and the elevation gain is approximately 1,500ft to the summit, which is at 1,760ft.

Throughout the hike we’ll enjoy some snacks and water on our way to the summit, which boasts a fantastic 360-degree view of the Lynn Fjord and beyond. We’ll stop along the way for a picnic lunch, after which, we may elect to hike down the opposite side of the mountain towards the east side of the peninsula and descend towards Battery Point. After a stop at the view point of the beautiful beach of Kelgaya and Battery Point, the last mile leads us to the Battery Point trailhead where we’ll get picked up and return to the pier.

Guests should bring a small pack with extra layers. Sturdy hiking shoes are appropriate. Dress for changing weather as conditions can change quickly in Alaska. Bring a rain jacket, and extra layer and don’t forget your camera!

(~ 10 minutes) – Your friendly guides will meet you near the Port Chilkoot Cruise Ship Dock in Haines. Before departing you’ll be able to ask any questions that you might still have about your upcoming hike and you’ll have the opportunity to use the restrooms before departing.
(~20 minutes) – From our meeting point we’ll head out the scenic Haines peninsula to the Mt. Riley trailhead.
(~10 minutes) – At the trailhead your guide will give you a thorough safety briefing and orientation before we hit the trail.
(~2.5 hours) – From the trailhead we’ll hike up Mt. Riley stopping along the way for lunch. Your expert guide will share their knowledge of the native flora and fauna and the unique geological history of the area. Enjoy plenty of photo opportunities throughout the hike.
(~2.5 hours) – We’ll continue from sweeping vistas on the summit of Mt. Riley down to the east side of the peninsula along the shores of the Lynn Fjord past Battery Point and back to the trailhead.
(~20 minutes) – A short drive will bring us back to our meeting point near the Port Chilkoot dock and a short walk from downtown Haines and many shops and restaurants.

Join this spectacular hiking adventure that immerses you in the remote beauty of Southeast Alaska, where you will be surrounded with amazing mountain, glacier, and ocean views. At the start of your tour you will be greeted by your professional hiking guide for a remote coastal hike along the Chilkat Inlet. We’ll drive for about 30 minutes along the Haines Peninsula to Chilkat State Park. Along the way, your guide will tell you about the history and geography of small town Haines, Alaska. It is a beautiful drive with many scenic photo opportunities.

Once at the trailhead, the hike begins over rolling terrain through temperate rainforest. Your knowledgeable, naturalist guide will talk about the flora and fauna of the region. The trail is slightly rolling as we make our way towards Moose Meadows, aptly named for the occasional moose seen grazing along the seaside. As we step out onto the beach, we are treated with magnificent glacier views across the fjord. The total hiking distance is about 3-5 miles depending on the group and weather conditions. The trail rises about 100 feet total in elevation.

The trail is out and back, so depending on the pace of the group, we may continue south along the coast of the peninsula. We’ll stop along the way for a picnic lunch with a fantastic view. After lunch, we’ll return back through Moose Meadows and make our way back to the pier in Haines.

Dress for changing weather as conditions can change quickly in Alaska. Bring a rain jacket, and extra layer. Don’t forget your camera!

Guest Comments

We only saw one other small group during our hike. It travels along a remote stretch of coastal forest and offered a great blend of views, forest serenity, and knowledge from our guides. It was a amazing experience, just what we were looking for. We saw a dall porpoise just off of the peninsula, and several Bald Eagles. Tim and Meredith were fantastic guides. The picnic lunch was tasty and we enjoyed eating it on the beach overlooking the Rainbow Glacier.

Upon arrival to Haines you will be greeted by your professional kayak guide for the ocean kayak trip of a lifetime. Your 2 person kayaks will be set up on the beach & will be a short 5-minute walk from the ferry pier. We’ll choose from a variety of beautiful ocean paddles depending on sea conditions and weather.

Your tour guides will outfit you with a PFD (personal flotation device), spray skirt & ponchos if needed. After a safety briefing and equipment introduction/fitting, you are off and paddling.

You will be on the water for about 2 hours. We have seen eagles, sea lions, seals, Dall porpoise, humpback whales or other marine wildlife along our way. Your guide is an expert naturalist and will share their extensive knowledge about the fjord, marine wildlife and local geography. We will likely stop off at a remote beach to stretch your legs and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Southeast Alaska. Once off the water, stay on the beach to enjoy a waterside picnic-style lunch.

In an instance where ocean conditions aren’t suitable, we’ll head to our backup location on Chilkoot Lake which is a 30-minute van ride along the Chilkoot River. This backup location is surrounded by mountains with alpine waterfalls and salmon spawning beds.

Note: We are able accommodate dietary restrictions with a minimum of 48 hours advanced notice, including gluten free, vegan, vegetarian, allergies, etc.

(~ 20 minutes) – Your friendly tour guides will meet you near the Port Chilkoot Cruise Ship Dock in Haines. Before departing you’ll be able to ask any questions that you might still have about your upcoming excursion and use the restrooms before a short walk to the adjacent beach where your 2-person kayaks will be waiting (1/3 km).
(~ 20 minutes) – Your tour guides will help you get fitted with a PFD (personal floatation device), spray skirt and paddle. You’ll then receive a thorough safety briefing and become familiar with your kayak and equipment before boarding your stable 2-person kayak
(~ 120-180 minutes) – We will spend the next 2-3 hours paddling on the ocean depending on the conditions and group preferences.
(~ 30 minutes) – Back at our private oceanside picnic area, you’ll enjoy a picnic-style lunch provides great views of the Lynn Fjord in a private setting.
(~ 10 minutes ) – Once we wrap up with lunch we’ll take the short walk back over to our meeting point near the dock which is a short walk from downtown and nearby shops and restaurants.

This tour starts in Skagway, AK, where you will board the Haines-Skagway Fast Ferry. It is a scenic and narrated 45-minute ferry ride over to Haines, AK. Upon arrival to Haines you will be greeted by your professional kayak guide for the ocean kayak excursion of a lifetime.

Your knowledgeable tour guide will meet you at the dock upon arrival in Haines. A scenic 26 mile drive along the National Scenic Byway and through the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve brings you to our remote staging area.

At the staging area, you’ll receive an orientation and safety briefing on our sport style UTVs (side-by-sides) from your tour guides. Guests wishing to drive must be at least 21 years old and bring a valid driver's license. There are a combination of 2-person and 4-person machines to accommodate varying group sizes and families. There are several spots along the tour where we can swap drivers to give everyone some time at the wheel. The UTVs are automatic transmission and drive similar to a car for ease of operation. These high performance UTVs are fun to drive and a great way to explore the Alaska wilderness.

Over the next 15 miles of gravel road & packed trail, your tour guide will lead you through a series of remote areas, and we’ll explore the wilds of Alaska! As we drive along beaver ponds and mountain meadows we may spot swans, salmon, eagles, bears or moose along the way. We’ll cross over Little Salmon creek and ascend to a series of viewpoints overlooking the Klehini, Tsirku and Chilkat River Valleys. The area is surrounded by 360 degrees of snow-capped glaciated peaks and there are many incredible viewpoints for photo breaks.

Along the way, we’ll enjoy a picnic lunch while we bask in the surrounding mountain views. After lunch, we’ll descend the mountain and make our way back to our private staging area before returning by bus back to Haines.

(~10 minutes) – Your friendly tour guides will meet you near the Haines Cruise Ship Dock. Before departing you’ll be able to ask any questions that you might still have about your upcoming excursion use the restrooms before the short drive up the highway.
(~40 minutes) – From here we’ll depart for a breathtaking interpretive drive through historic Fort Seward and the town of Haines then up the Haines Scenic Byway (a national scenic byway) to our UTV base. The Haines Highway passes through the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve which was established to protect critical habitat for the world’s largest concentration of bald eagles here in Haines.
(~30 minutes) – Once we arrive at the UTV base, your guides will get you oriented with the area and help you into your safety equipment. You will then receive a thorough safety briefing and orientation on the machines.
(~90 minutes) – Your adventure continues as you head out by UTV for a 1.5 hour exploration of over 15 miles of trails that run through a variety of landscapes and ecosystems that personify Southeast Alaska. Along the way, if the weather cooperates, we’ll stop for lunch at one of the many scenic overlooks on the trail. You’ll travel past beaver ponds, views of sweeping mountain landscapes and lush coastal rainforest.
(~25 minutes) – Back at the UTV base we’ll help you de-rig from the drive and have some hot cocoa and lemonade.
(~40 minutes) – Your time in Haines comes to and end with a leisurely ride back through the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve to the small town of Haines.

Your adventure tour begins with a narrated drive through historic downtown Skagway and up the Klondike Highway. From the highway, a short nature hike brings you to the spectacular Adventure Park where expert guides will outfit you with state of the art safety equipment. Then you will be off to enjoy the thrill of the ropes course and zip line experience! First you will enter into an incredible series of ropes course crossings including burma loops, suspended bridges and raised balance beams. Next up is a fantastic series of six zip lines through the lush Alaskan canopy. You will zoom from platform to platform while your friends and family cheer you on! Your heart will be pumping as you get ready for the “Walk the Plank” zip that soars high above the ground through the treetops!

(~20 minutes) – We’ll depart from our meeting point by van for an interpretive driving tour of historic downtown Skagway on our way up the Klondike Highway to our private zip line site on Porcupine Mountain.
(~15 minutes) – From our private parking area, a short uphill walk along our forest nature trail will bring us to our base camp. Here, your expert guides will get you outfitted with state of the art equipment including a helmet and waist and chest harnesses. Next, you’ll receive a thorough orientation and safety briefing for your upcoming zipping experience.
(~ 60 minutes) – Your guides will start you off in our Adventure Park - 3 high ropes elements that will get you off the ground and confident in your gear. These bridges lead you to our "baby" zip line - an easy intro to the zipping experience!
(~ 60 minutes) – Next your guides will then lead you to the heart of the experience - 5 zip lines through the lush Alaskan canopy! Our zip line course uses a guide-controlled hands-free braking system. So you’ll just be able to sit back and enjoy the ride as you zoom through the trees.
(~ 15 minutes) – Our adventure wraps up in our rough-cut timber kiosk for some hot cocoa and trail mix snacks.

With 2 Japanese speaking ladies and a newly turned 8 yr old I wasn't sure how it would go...but it turned out great. What a great memory maker!!!!!
