Tour Description

You’ll meet up with a representative at the pier, and head down to the Skagway small boat harbor to climb aboard the Full Swing - a 19 person adventure catamaran. After receiving the safety briefing, we’ll motor out past the cruise ship docs and into the Taiya inlet. The Taiya inlet, a narrow, steep fjord is surrounded by towering peaks and glaciers.

With twin 250hp motors, the Full Swing is fast and nimble as it contours the steep rock walls of the Taiya Inlet. Our route will traverse 10 – 20 miles of the uppermost reaches of the longest and deepest fjord in North America. We’ll explore secluded coves, waterfalls and watch for eagles, humpbacks, porpoise and mountain goats along the narrow fjord. The boat has a forward and aft outside decks for open air photography. Your guide and captain are experienced naturalists who enjoy sharing their passion for the geology and natural history of the Tongass National Forest and Southeast Alaska.

The Full Swing has a restroom on board, and bottled water is provided for guests. After about an hour and a half out on the water, we’ll return to Skagway at the completion of the tour.

(~15 minutes) - Your friendly guide will meet you near the Skagway Small Boat harbor sign and restrooms. Here they will take the opportunity to get to know you and provide answers to any questions that you might have about your upcoming excursion and complete any necessary paperwork.
(~15 minutes) - We'll walk down the dock and load onto the Full Swing catamaran.
(~130 minutes) - We will take the next 1 to 1.5 hours to explore the Tayia Inlet before returning to the dock.
Where will I meet my guide?
Our guide will meet you 15 minutes prior to the tour start time to make sure all necessary paperwork is completed. They will meet you under the Small Boat Harbor sign which is located on Railroad Dock. CLICK HERE to see a map pointing to this location.
Who are my guides?
You guides are experts in the industry. They are fun, well-trained and passionate about guiding and sharing their expert knowledge about the history and natural wonder of Haines and Skagway, Alaska with you! Our staff all go through extensive training and hold current first-aid (mostly WFR and WEMT) certification. Many of our guides also lead courses and guided expedition trips for us both in Alaska and throughout the world.
Is there a bathroom?
Yes – restrooms are available on the dock prior to departing, and on the Full Swing while you are on the water.
Do you cancel due to weather?
Our tours embrace Southeast Alaska’s unpredictable weather. Our tours run rain or shine. If in a rare instance weather does cause us to cancel the tour you will be refunded in full and provided with assistance with finding an alternative activity for the day.
What wildlife will I see?
Though wildlife can never be guaranteed, Bald Eagles, mountain goats, humpback whales, sea lions, orcas and Dall Porpoise are often seen along the Taiya Inlet. We'll have some binoculars on board, but we recommend bringing some as well to have the best chance to spot wildlife during the tour.

What a fun way to explore the water around Skagway! My family had a fantastic time, and Captain Max was absolutely wonderful!
